What's new at the Hertie School
Edition 2 | Academic Year 22/23 | 28 October 2022

Dear Friends of the Hertie School,

The winds of change are sweeping over Europe and the world. While some countries are welcoming new, controversial governments in office, others are struggling to provide solutions to current crises and questioning long-term policies that were regarded as sacrosanct only months ago.

How these changes will influence the state of democracy in the long run remains to be seen. But research can already help us assess the quality of state capacity. In this respect, last month we celebrated the European launch of the 2022 Berggruen Governance Index – a study that compares good governance and the quality of life in 134 countries over the last 20 years. Moreover, in our study programmes and executive training, we also put the latest research on public policy into practice and train the next generation of decision makers.

In this newsletter edition, I invite you to find out what senior professionals can expect from our executive trainings and to learn how one of our alumni benefits from his education at the Hertie School. Moreover, read about our latest research on how post-conflict countries can maintain peace and how a promising research project will analyse the influence of companies on our democracy

I wish you an insightful read!

With all best wishes,

Prof. Cornelia Woll
