What's new at the Hertie School
Edition 1 | Academic Year 22/23 | 19 September 2022

Dear Friends of the Hertie School,

September is a very special month for the Hertie School community, as it marks the formal opening of our academic year when we welcome new and familiar faces (back) on campus while also bidding farewell to our Executive Master of Public Administration graduates. This year was particularly special for me because I had the chance to address our students, faculty and staff for the first time in my official capacity as the new President of the Hertie School.

I am convinced that as a university, training future decision-makers is not just about teaching them to win political battles. Instead, we need to engage students for the common good. The diversity of our society and the manifold perspectives and lived experiences that exist within it are something we as a community need to reflect upon. Only then can we solve the various challenges of our times.

In this edition of our newsletter, I invite you to learn about the changes and way forward at the Hertie School for the next few years, which was announced at our opening ceremony on 5 September. Moreover, you can read about our faculty’s latest achievements with major research grants as well as a new study abroad partnership for our students.

With all best wishes,

Prof. Cornelia Woll
