Dear friends of the Hertie School, 2023 has kicked off with exciting events both on the global stage and for us at the Hertie School. Professor of Organisation, Strategy and Leadership Johanna Mair shared her expectations for this year’s World Economic Forum before taking off to Davos. And celebrating the 60th anniversary of Franco-German cooperation, a team of experts from our Jacques Delors Centre and myself commented on ways forward for Europe across the European media landscape. At the Hertie School, we believe in leaving the ivory tower and sharing our knowledge with policy-makers, opinion leaders and the public. But we also invite scholars to come and share their knowledge with us: as we search for the next Henrik Enderlein Fellow, we are already looking forward to welcoming a policy practitioner who will research and teach at our university in September. The application deadline is 6 March 2023. Last week, Friedrichstraße 180 came alive again as we welcomed students and faculty back to campus for the spring semester. I am particularly delighted to announce that Professor of Data Science for Public Policy Simon Munzert has taken the helm at the Data Science Lab. He will steer our new Master of Data Science for Public Policy programme (for which we are still accepting applications) and the future of data science and AI at the Hertie School forward. This month we also look forward to unpacking nuclear security and other key issues at the Munich Security Conference and in the Centre for International Security's annual post-conference discussion. For now, I wish you an insightful read into the latest news as we embark on a new semester. With all best wishes,
Prof. Cornelia Woll President Hertie School
